About Shepherd’s Chapel Church Website
The Measure of a Ministry
Shepherd’s Chapel is huge from a logistical standpoint with over 150 TV stations and satellite coverage. But a ministry must be judged not by its size or community outreach but by its fidelity to the Scripture and the gospel of Jesus Christ. A big platform doesn’t mean sound doctrine.
Shepherd’s Chapel’s Doctrinal Concerns
Shepherd’s Chapel claims to have “in-depth Bible teaching in a unique verse-by-verse format” but the content of the teaching must be evaluated. The verse-by-verse approach can be a good way to teach the Bible, but it must be grounded in accurate biblical interpretation. Shepherd’s Chapel has promoted speculative doctrines such as the serpent seed doctrine, the preexistence of souls, and the denial of hell—all of which have no scriptural support. These teachings take away from the central message of the gospel and focus on unbiblical speculations that lead believers away from the core truths of sin, grace, and redemption in Christ.
Balancing Community Involvement and Faithfulness
The Chapel has a history of community involvement—supporting local programs and events. Good works and community outreach are commendable but cannot outweigh the spiritual damage of teaching that distorts the gospel. As Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23, not all who do works in His name are of Him. Faithfulness to the Word of God must always trump visible success or community involvement.
Biblical Accountability for All Teachings
As Christians, we are to test all teachings against the unchanging truths of Scripture (Acts 17:11, 1 John 4:1). Shepherd’s Chapel’s reach through its TV ministry is vast, but influence must be accompanied by biblical accountability. The value of any ministry is not determined by the size of its audience or its technology but by its unwavering commitment to proclaiming the full, unadulterated gospel of Jesus Christ. Shepherd’s Chapel may have some biblical insights, but its promotion of speculative and divisive doctrines nullifies its claim to be a faithful Bible teaching ministry.
Purpose of the Shepherd’s Chapel Church Website
The purpose of the Shepherd’s Chapel Church website is to reach followers of Shepherd’s Chapel and encourage them to carefully consider the warnings I am presenting about the false teachings propagated by Arnold and Dennis Murray. My hope is that they might reflect on these concerns and recognize the errors being taught. While I would like to believe that Dennis Murray could come to acknowledge his own mistakes and those of his late father, Scripture reminds us that those who reject the truth after being exposed to it often grow increasingly hardened.
Trusting God to Change Hearts
Ultimately, only God can soften a hardened heart. As Ezekiel 36:26 declares, “I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” I speak from personal experience—I once resisted the truth myself. God, in His mercy, changed my heart, and I understand the struggle that many followers of Shepherd’s Chapel may face. Their resistance is often not intentional but deeply rooted in years of accepting teachings that conflict with biblical truth. As Paul wrote, “The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:4).
Remaining Faithful
I do not presume that my words alone can persuade everyone. I can only pray that God will work in their hearts to bring about the change that only He can accomplish. My role is to use the tools God has entrusted to me, and I trust Him with the results. As Paul wisely observed, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:6). My responsibility is to remain faithful in presenting the truth, knowing that the power to transform hearts rests in God’s hands.
